Intimni spomini prvih prebivalcev Tomosovega bloka iz leta 1960 nas vrnejo nazaj v čas jugoslovanskega socializma, avtomatzacije prozvodnje, obilja produkcijskih sredstev, dostopnih stanovanj, medsebojnega povezovanja ljudi, solidarnosti in arhitekturno urbanističnega načrtovanja Kopra.
The documentary film connects personal memories and stories of individuals who lived in the high-rise building with participatory perspectives of experts in the fields of urban planning, architecture, spatial sociology, and cultural heritage, with the aim of fostering active participation, temporary use, and the creation of content in the city of Koper.
The intimate memories of the first residents of the Tomos block from 1960 take us back to the time of Yugoslav socialism, the automation of production, the abundance of production resources, accessible housing, mutual connections between people, solidarity, and the architectural and urban planning of Koper. The city, as a living organism, is shaped through various political, social, and societal spheres. The central subject of the documentary, the Tomos high-rise, represents one of the key examples of modernist residential construction with the typology of a bachelor/single-person home, which has, since its inception, faced numerous criticisms and disapproval from the wider public, as well as neglect, failed auctions, and renovation into luxury apartments.
The documentary film questions how this typology has marked the city and life within it, what social and content-related changes have occurred in the city, and what the new social structure of the renovated high-rise means for the city. In 2019, a community called Avtomatik Delovišče formed in the ground floor of the Tomos building, which, through the involvement of residents, advocates for a socially just and, on the principle of a circular economy, more ecologically conscious design of the city and its public spaces. The documentary presents the key activities of the Avtomatik Delovišče collective and the responses of users and the community to this new urban practice.
In parallel, the documentary highlights personal experiences of individuals and links them to professional theoretical concepts, raising questions about participation, temporary use, and the future of urban life.
